myDNA is a genetic interpretation company that helps people understand the secrets of their DNA and what to do with that knowledge. myDNA offer a range of products to help people become their best selves by turning their DNA insights into action.

YOU GET THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR DNA TEST KIT:

  • 1 x DNA swab
  • 1 x unique registration code
  • 1 x reply paid envelope

Taking the test is easy. It only takes a few minutes for you to swab, download the myDNA Unlocked app and register, before sending your swab directly to the lab using the reply paid envelope for processing.

Once your DNA sample is received, it takes the lab and scientific team approximately 10-15 business days after lab receives sample to process your results. Subject to registration via the myDNA Unlocked app, your DNA insights will be available for you to access at anytime.

A strict quality assurance process combined with state of the art laboratory facilities allows myDNA to control reliability and validity of the tests.

The clinical team includes pharmacologists, molecular and clinical geneticists, researchers, genetic counsellors, nutritionists and dieticians. Customers receive recommendations based on evidence-based, peer reviewed research.

Once you receive your test kit, you will need to swab the inside of your cheek, download the myDNA app and register, then fill the label and send your DNA sample to our lab. To register you will need to go to https://register.mydna.life/ and enter your numeric barcode and fill your details.

Two of the most common ways to extract DNA is via blood and buccal swab. A buccal swab is a cheek swab that allows you to collect cheek cells for DNA analysis. The results from swabs or blood samples are exactly the same, only there are differences in how the two samples are processed.

Your health professionals are best placed to make any final recommendations about your medication and can ensure that any prescription adjustments suggested by the myDNA medication report are considered together with your medical history.

Pharmacogenomics testing is a relatively new area in healthcare and health professionals are able to contact the myDNA clinical team directly if they have any questions or would like to discuss your myDNA report further.

SECURITY AND INSURANCE QUESTIONS

myDNA uses the latest software and information technology systems to ensure that your data will never knowingly be released to a third party without your consent. You have access to your report in a private results area of https://explore.mydna.life/ and can share this with future health professionals.

myDNA stores test results in a secure environment and will not disclose records without your consent. For more details, please see myDNA privacy policy.

Life insurance companies may request that applicants provide them with copies of any genetic test results known to the applicant. myDNA focuses on lifestyle genetics and the majority of the genes analysed are unrelated to disease risk and should not have implications for life insurance. A small number of the genes analysed for health and wellness may be associated with disease risk. If you are concerned about this, you may want to consider your life insurance situation before having the myDNA test

Private health insurance premiums are not impacted by genetic test results in Australia1.

Currently, there is no reimbursement for the cost of this test by Medicare or private health insurance. However, testing can be covered for Workcover (in certain States) and DVA patients with a claim application letter from your physician. Some small health funds have reimbursed their members and you should ask your fund provider.
